Hi all. I was just wondering if any of you have ever participated in a yoga class? I'm interested in joining one, but I'm curious as to how well the instructors work with the visually impaired.

I participated in one and except for 2 or 3 times of forgetfulness, my instructor was very open and very adaptable. He would probably teach chair yoga to someone in a wheelchair if they asked too, that's how adaptable he is. He always said if there was a position that was uncomfortable for us, we could modify it in any way. The times he would forget would be when I was looking down at the mat in a position like downward facing dog and the class would've switched to another position and I didn't know it. Yoga is awesome! Definitely go for it!

I used to do Yoga classes at college. I have always done it in blind schools and blind societies. I tried to do some yoga yesterday myself.

I started in a group for visually-impaired and quickly moved into a "regular" posture-flow class. There are few, infrequent moments when I lose track of what the class is doing. My instructors have always been very acomodating. One was a bit nervous at first, and asked permission to touch me; we both felt rather foolish. Since that one episode, he's great!

Hey!!
I have done both Yoga and Pilates--after I had a few one-on-one sessions with my instructor, I was able to do a group class and generally, he was very good and adaptable as well! Definitely go for it!

I did yoga for a while, and didn't have a problem with picking it up. The instructor was quite chatty, describing all the positions and transitions between as we went along, counting breaths, all that stuff. I've been meaning to get back into it. Good luck with yours.
